Bobcats sign Juwan HowardCharlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has signed forward Juwan Howard. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. To make room for Howard, the team has waived forward Dwayne Jones. The Bobcats roster remains at 15 players.

“We are glad to be able to add Juwan to our team,” Higgins said. “We feel his experience and leadership will have a positive impact both on and off the court.”

A 6-9 forward, Howard is in the 15th season of an NBA career that has spanned 1,004 games, with averages of 15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Washington, Dallas, Denver, Orlando and Houston. He signed with the Nuggets prior to training camp this season and appeared in three games for Denver before being released on November 3.

Howard was the fifth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft and earned Second Team All-Rookie honors in 1994-95, missing the first team by a single vote. The following season, he was named the 1996 Eastern Conference All-Star Team and earned Third Team All-NBA honors.

Howard has averaged at least 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 13 of his 14 full NBA seasons, including averages of at least 14.0 points in each of his first 10 seasons. One of only 86 players to play in at least 1,000 career NBA games, he ranks fourth among active NBA players in games played, sixth in minutes played, eighth in rebounds and ninth in field goals.

Jones was signed by the Bobcats as a free agent on November 24. He played in six games for Charlotte, averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 8.7 minutes played.
