76ers trade Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth to TimberwolvesPhiladelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the team has traded Calvin Booth, Rodney Carney, cash considerations and the rights to a conditional first-round pick received from Utah (acquired from the Jazz last December) to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a protected second-round pick in 2010.

"Acquiring another first-round draft pick gives us an additional asset as we continue building our team," said Timberwolves VP of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale. "This trade continues our plan of building around our young core of developing players while acquiring future assets."

Carney, a 6-5 guard, was drafted 16th overall (first round) by the Chicago Bulls in the 2006 NBA Draft, and was later acquired by Philadelphia in a draft night trade. In his rookie season, Carney appeared in 67 games posting averages of 6.6 points (.464 FG%, .609 FT%) and 1.9 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game, including a career-high 25 points against the Golden State Warriors. In his second NBA season (2007-08), Carney appeared in 70 games, averaging 5.8 points (.403 FG%, .679 FT%) and 2.1 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game.

Booth, a 6-11 center, averaged 0.8 points (.333 FG%, .600 FT%) and 1.2 rebounds in 6.6 minutes per game in 31 contests for Philadelphia in 2007-08. In his career, Booth has appeared in 358 games with averages of 3.3 points (.450 FG%, .748 FT%) and 2.8 rebounds in 12.3 minutes per game. Booth was signed as a free agent by Philadelphia prior to the 2007-08 season.

InsideHoops.com says: The Sixers are reportedly doing this to facilitate their signing of Elton Brand, which should happen today.
