nba china games The NBA China Games will return to China in October with two games featuring the Milwaukee Bucks and the Golden State Warriors in Beijing and Guangzhou, it was announced today by the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sport and the Guangzhou Sports Bureau. NBA China Games 2008 will feature the first sporting event at the Beijing Olympic Basketball Arena following the Olympics and the first ever NBA game played in Guangzhou.

NBA China Games 2008 will tip off in Guangzhou on Oct. 15 when the Bucks and Warriors meet at the Guangzhou Gymnasium with a capacity of 13,000. The two teams then travel to Beijing to play on Oct. 18 at the Beijing Olympic Basketball Arena, an NBA-style arena with a capacity of 17,173. Following the China Games, the multi-purpose arena is expected to host basketball games, other sporting events, concerts and festivals.

As part of the NBA’s on-going Sichuan Province earthquake relief efforts, NBA Cares, the league’s social responsibility program, will undertake a series of activities and events in conjunction with NBA China Games 2008. The events will support the rebuilding process in the province and recognize the rescue workers and first responders for their tireless and heroic efforts.

“Our partnerships with the Chinese Basketball Association, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sport and the Guangzhou Sports Bureau provide us with the great opportunity to extend the NBA’s long-term relationship with Chinese basketball and bring the authentic NBA experience to fans in Guangzhou and Beijing,” said Tim Chen, CEO of NBA China. “The NBA China Games will also serve as a platform through which the NBA family can further assist in the relief and rebuilding efforts of the Sichuan province."

Both games will be televised live in China, the United States and to more than 200 countries and territories.

“The CBA is happy that basketball fans in China will have the opportunity to witness an NBA pre-season game at the Beijing Olympic Basketball Arena, a state of the art arena,” said Mr. Li Yuanwei, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Basketball Association. “We hope fans will not only take pleasure in watching a great basketball game but will also enjoy the entertainment experience provided at the world class facilities.”

“The inaugural China Games in Beijing in 2004 was an all around success and this year’s matchup between the Bucks and the Warriors will give basketball fans in Beijing another opportunity to witness some of the best basketball in the world,” said Mr. Sun Kanglin, President of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sport.

“For the first time two NBA teams will play a game in Guangzhou and we are honored and proud to add another world class sporting competition to our calendar," said Professor Liu Jiangnan, President of the. Guangzhou Sports Bureau."The game will give basketball fans in Guangzhou the unprecedented opportunity to witness world class basketball live and in person.”

NBA China Games 2008 will be the league’s third set of preseason games in China. In 2004, the NBA became the first American professional sports league to stage games in China, with two games between the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings in Shanghai and Beijing. Last October, NBA China Games 2007 featured three games between the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Orlando Magic and the Team China All-Stars in Shanghai and Macao. The NBA’s first trip to China dates back to 1979 when the Washington Wizards played against the Chinese National Team.






2007 NBA CHINA GAMES

The NBA China Games 2007 are comprised of three games featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Orlando Magic and the China Men’s National Team. NBA China Games 2007 will tip off on Oct. 17 with a game between the Cavaliers and the Magic in Shanghai at the Qizhong Forest Sports City arena with a capacity of 13,708. The event will then head to Macao where there will be two games at the new Venetian Arena with a capacity of 15,000. On Oct. 18, the Magic will take on the China Men’s National Team, and a rematch between the Magic and the Cavaliers will take place on Oct. 20.

RESULTS OF 2007 NBA CHINA GAMES ARE BELOW

All three games will be carried live on CCTV 5 and Great Sports Channel of SMG, and televised to more than 200 countries around the world.

NBA China Games 2007 will be the league’s second set of preseason games in China. In 2004, the NBA became the first American professional sports league to stage games in China, with two matchups between the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings in Shanghai and Beijing. This year’s game between the Magic and the China Men’s National Team also will mark a special milestone in the NBA’s long-standing relationship with Chinese Basketball. The Magic will follow the Washington Bullets (now the Wizards) as the second NBA team to play a game against the Chinese National Team in China. The Bullets traveled to China in 1979 to play two exhibition games against the Chinese National Team.

The NBA is the most popular sports league in China. The NBA has four offices in greater China, relationships with 51 Chinese telecasters and organizes dozens of grassroots events around the country.

Tickets for the NBA China Games 2007 – the opening game in Shanghai, which features a match-up between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic, will go on sale Sunday, June 10 in Shanghai, it was jointly announced today by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Shanghai Administration of Sports. The two teams are scheduled to meet at the Qizhong Forest Sports City arena on Wednesday, October 17 at 8:00p.m.

Dwight Howard, center of the Orlando Magic, is scheduled to be in China from June 4 to 10, to participate in a series of events to meet fans, attend marketing partner events, and participate in an event to launch the ticket sales of the NBA China Games 2007. Six members of the NBA Fan Patrol will also be in Shanghai to add to the festivities and greet fans in Shanghai.

2007 NBA CHINA GAMES RESULTS

Magic 90, Cavaliers 86 - Despite shooting only 38.5% the Magic, behind Dwight Howard's 31 points (9-of-17 shooting) and 14 rebounds handled the Cavaliers. For Orlando, Jameer Nelson had 24 points and 6 assists. Hedo Turkoglu scored 12, and Keith Bogans added 11, plus 8 assists. For Cleveland, LeBron James, playing just 28 minutes, had 17 points (5-of-9) and 4 steals, though he added just 1 rebound and 3 assists. Larry Hughes scored 16, Zydrunas Ilgauskas 12 points with 9 rebounds, and Shannon Brown 12 points.

Magic 116, Team China 92 - Shooting 55% while holding Team China to 38.8%, Orlando came away with the victory. For the Magic, Carlos Arroyo in 35 big minutes off the bench scored 25 points (9-of-15 shooting) with 9 assists and 4 steals. Hedo Turkoglu scored 17. James Augustine had 14 points with 7 rebounds. Dwight Howard, playing a mere 13 minutes, added 12 points and 4 rebounds. For Team China, O.Oyedeji shot well and lived at the foul line for 25 points, though he had no assists and 5 turnovers. Former NBA player Wang Zhizhi had 16 points with 7 rebounds.

Magic 100, Cavaliers 84 - Orlando shot 53.8% while holding Cleveland to 39.0%. The Magic had six players score double-digit points: Dwight Howard had 17 points, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Keith Bogans, Pat Garrity and JJ Redick each scored 14. Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu each added 13. Turkoglu also had 9 rebounds. For the Cavs, LeBron James needed 12 shots to get his 14 points, plus 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Larry Hughes also scored 14. Daniel Gibson had 13, Zydrunas Ilgauskas 12 points with 11 rebounds, and Shannon Brown scored 11.
