DeMar DeRozan interviewWhile looking at rookie sleepers in the NBA, it's worth pointing out the solid play of Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan. Averaging 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds with 47.7% FG shooting on a team that currently 8th in the Eastern conference, the best is yet to come from this super athlete who has started all 64 of his games this season.

Randy Zellea of InsideHoops.com recently met down with DeRozan to talk about his rookie year, what player he looked up to, his All-Star Weekend experience and more.

InsideHoops.com: What have you learned during your rookie season?

DeRozan: I think the chance of being able to play as a rookie. I am honored to be in the situation I am in and to be able to start on a very good basketball team. There are a lot of great players on this team and I am thankful for the opportunity.

InsideHoops.com: What is the major difference between pros and college?

DeRozan: It's different especially game-wise. Playing as many games as we do, that’s what the major difference is to me. The transition from twice a week to four times a week is a major transition.

InsideHoops.com: Did you enjoy the All-Star Weekend?

DeRozan: It was a great to be a part of it. I remember being a kid always watching All-Star Weekend, now being a part of it is very special. Not everyone has that opportunity and I am honored to have it.

InsideHoops.com: Who did you admire growing up?

DeRozan: When I was younger I was a big Jordan fan. When I was a little younger I enjoyed watching Kobe Bryant. I was a teenager when Kobe broke in and always admired his game.

InsideHoops.com: Do you have a favorite basketball memory?

DeRozan: I grew up being a huge Lakers fan. They won three straight championships when I was younger. I always found myself lucky that I was able to watch and now play against some of those same guys.

InsideHoops.com: Are you following the NCAA Tournament this season?

DeRozan: This was tough year for the tournament. I decided not to participate in any brackets this season because of all the possible upsets. I think there might be a few more. I just hope to see a good tournament.

InsideHoops.com: What do you have to work on to see more time on the court?

DeRozan: I just have to continue to work and improve on my game. As long as I keep doing that, positive things will happen and no goal will be difficult in my eyes.
