Raptors trade Juan Dixon to Pistons for Primoz Brezec and cashThe Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have acquired centre Primoz Brezec and cash considerations from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for guard Juan Dixon.

We are pleased to add Juan Dixon to our roster,” said Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars. “We feel Juan will add quality depth at the guard position both offensively and defensively. We also appreciate the hard work and professionalism that Primoz Brezec displayed during his time with our club.”

Dixon, a former first-round draft choice by Washington in 2002, was acquired by the Raptors from Portland in exchange for guard Fred Jones on 2/22/07. In 36 games with Toronto this season, he averaged 4.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 11.8 minutes per game. He averaged 11.1 points and 26.3 minutes in 26 games with the Raptors a season ago. In six seasons with Washington, Portland and Toronto, Dixon has compiled career averages of 9.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 369 NBA games (71 starts). As a collegiate player at Maryland, he was named 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-America by The Associated Press after helping the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA Championship. He was also named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four tournament.

In 2004-05 Brezec averaged career highs of 13.0 points and 7.4 rebounds, finishing second on the team in both categories. He shot .512 from the field (14th in the NBA) and finished fourth in NBA Most Improved Player Award voting.

Brezec, 7-foot-1, 255 pounds, began the year with Charlotte, where he appeared in 20 games with 18 starts. He averaged 1.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 13.3 minutes. Brezec was traded along with Walter Herrmann to the Detroit Pistons on December 14, 2007 for Nazr Mohammed. In 17 games with the Pistons, Brezec averaged 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds.

A native of Slovenia, Brezec was selected by the Bobcats in the Expansion Draft held June 22, 2004. He appeared in 229 career games with Charlotte, averaging 9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds, while shooting .504 from the field. Brezec was a teammate of Rasho Nesterovic on the Slovenian National Team in the 2006 FIBA World Championships.
