Yeah, I am all for physical basketball but some of these games have been egrerious against Denver, Indy and Mavs in particular.
They went overboard and went from no contact allowed to full on double handchecking outside the 3 point line.

Not specific to team or player.
The only basketball that had worse officiating in my lifetime has been prior Olympics.
We all know the playoffs are more physical. But the question is HOW physical. What I'm seeing is people straight up pushing defenders for "screens". Grabbing and holding defenders.
The most common way of scoring...

Would you like some cheese with that whine?
Jokic is averaging 6 fts a game in the playoffs. I guess those "fingernail fouls" haven't happened very often.

Utterly hilarious trajectory these playoffs are on. It's not basketball at this point.

He might be.
His statline is comparable to Walt Frazier.
Separately, his post-up game reminds me of Mark Jackson- another oversized Knicks guard who played in the paint.

King averaged 35 ppg in the playoffs, shooting 57.4%, way back in '84.

Absolutely hilarious series.
Jokic can throw his 280 lbs at anyone and knock them over as if he is playing rubgy and receives the benefit of fingernail fouls when anyone touches him.
Minn's defense has fallen apart for one simple reason- no one wants to guard Jokic. They know Jokic will flatten them on national TV and get away with it. ...

The gap between Gobert as the help defender vs KAT or Reid is much wider than as the man defender. KAT, especially is prone to lapses on defense when he's off the ball.

it’s a pretty similar situation. A routinely mocked for lack of all around skill four-time, defensive player of the year Guarding somebody who really can’t be stopped, who was also taking the matchup personally. Guys like them don’t win awards because they can stop great scorers one on one. They win because they defend the other team in general.

Robinson often got the better of Hakeem prior to this series.
That series shifted the whole narrative of who the best center out of the two was. It was a lot closer than people make it out to be.

Yea I was gonna say. Payton did a very good job on Jordan in that series.
The Sonics gave Payton the Deion Sanders treatment in the first half of the series in that they put him on someone else and let him completely lock them up 1-on-1 so they could have guys help on Jordan.

He isn’t better than Bernard King was and Bernard isn’t a top 3 Knick either. The Knicks history isn’t as rich as they want you to believe it is but they have had multiple legitimate MVP candidate players. Jalen isn’t that. It’s not inconceivable he could be but as of now?
and there are lots of players who have scored a lot on a conference...

Probably. The Knicks' list of star players all-time is the weakest, pound for pound, of any team in the league.

True, but that wasn't peak Mutombo. It was already his 10th year. He averaged only 2.7bpg that year. That's worse that any of his previous seasons. His peak was at 4.5 bpg 5 years earlier.
Garnett & Duncan had were statistically better, but Mutombo won the DPOY based on team narrative. Even David Robinson, Ben Wallace, and Theo Ratliff had...

“Whenever Nikola gets it going like that, you have to take a step back and allow him to dictate the way the game is going to go,” Jamal Murray said. “He had 40. He missed seven shots on the Defensive Player of the Year (Gobert), and it felt like he had 50.” – via New York Times

Payton was 2 inches shorter than Jordan. He had a plumbing license as well.
Payton didn't guard Jordan until game 4. The series went 2-1, in favour of the Sonics, with the 6'4" plumber clamping down Jordan.
Jordan's stats:
Game 4: 23 pts, 31.6 FG%
Game 5: 26 pts, 50 FG%
game 6: 22 pts, 26.3%
He got locked up.

Every time I have watched Gobert extensively, which is usually the playoffs, I am underwhelmed. Obviously he is a valuable defender, but I never get the impression he is truly a dominant defensive force like say a prime Mutombo. I also feel someone like Chet Holmgren is simply a better rim protector. Gobert doesn't seem to have good reaction speed.

Rudy Gobert - 4x DPOY (my very partisan/biased take - while Duncan with 0) - Bill Russell is rolling in his grave.
If someone as mild-mannered as Jokic has a "thing" for Gobert - good for Jokic.
Gobert needs to EARN those DPOYs, and he deserves the criticism.

You know that when a team is led by someone in +/- in losses, but someone else in wins that means the guy who leads them in losses has no impact? Meaning him playing good or rather being the best player in a certain game is actually detrimental to the team?

The most recent one I recall having his matchup specifically sought out over and over to the detriment of his team is Rudy himself in previous years when they would just find a way to make him guard a shooter knowing he couldn’t stand to do it and would roam and leave him open.

You are projecting. I didn't quote your prediction about the Denver series even though it was laughable at the time and even moreso after game 2.
Indy isn't nearly as good as the Knicks. The only reason the series isn't over is because of the Knicks injuries. Robinson and OG played huge roles against Philly and both are out, not to mention...
