timberwolves waive eddie griffinFinally, the Minnesota Timberwolves got rid of a lingering problem.

Tuesday, the team announced they waived forward Eddie Griffin.

The 6-10 forward played in 13 games for Minnesota this season and averaged 1.4 points (.259 FG%) and 1.9 rebounds in 7.1 minutes. The five-year veteran has appeared in 303 NBA contests (117 starts) with Minnesota and Houston and has posted averages of 7.2 points (.377 FG%), 5.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots in 22.2 minutes per game.

"It was time for both parties - Eddie and the Timberwolves - to move on," said Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale. "It just didn't work out for Eddie here in Minnesota. He will be a free agent next year and we do not have any future financial obligations regarding Eddie's contract."

A former first-round pick (7th overall) by the New Jersey Nets, Griffin originally signed as a free agent with the Timberwolves on Oct. 5, 2004. He re-signed with Minnesota on Aug. 22, 2005.

The Wolves were very generous, giving Eddie all sorts of chances. He has too many issues and just doesn't know how to act. The Wolves had to part ways.

InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner speculates there's a 50 percent chance some other NBA team takes a chance on him in the next year -- maybe in summer league or preseason for a minimum, nonguaranteed deal -- and a 50 percent chance he winds up overseas and isn't heard from for many seasons.

Hopefully Griffin is able to avoid future legal trouble.
