Luke JacksonThe Boston Celtics announced today that they have acquired former first round pick Luke Jackson from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for center Dwayne Jones. The Celtics also received cash considerations in the deal.

Jackson was the 10th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by Cleveland out of the University of Oregon. Jackson appeared in 36 games for the Cavaliers last season averaging 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per game. Jackson missed 32 games last season with a broken left wrist. He scored a career-high 14 points in 16 minutes vs. Utah last season on December 20, 2005. This will be Jackson’s third season in the NBA.

Jones was originally acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves last season in the trade that saw the Celtics acquire forward Wally Szczerbiak and center Michael Olowokandi. Jones is entering his second season after leaving college early to sign with the Timberwolves as an undrafted free agent. Jones appeared in 14 games last season for the Celtics averaging 1.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game.

Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry: "We think Dwayne will be a good fit with us. He has the potential to be a quality rebounder, defender and shot blocker in the NBA. We look forward to having him with us and helping him further develop as an NBA player. Luke has worked his tail off to return from injuries and we wish him the best as he takes the next step of his career. As we looked at our current roster situation, we felt that this trade would better balance our roster and hopefully also put Luke in a better situation to succeed.”
