| Oct. 24, 2007

jamaal magloire interviewThe New Jersey Nets this offseason were in search of help up front, and found some in the form of Jamaal Magloire. The 6-11, 265-pound center has played for three different teams (Hornets, Bucks, Trail Blazers) in the last three seasons. His career averages are 9.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 25.2 minutes per game. He is expected to be a full-time contributor up front alongside Nenad Krstic. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner met with Magloire for an exclusive interview.

InsideHoops.com: And now, you're a Net. A new chapter in your career. Talk about being on the team.

Jamaal Magloire: It's good. I think that playing on a team that has a chance to contend for a world championship is always a good situation to be in. The city's great, and the team has been receptive to me coming here. So, everything's been going good.

InsideHoops.com: I feel like these last few seasons you maybe haven't gotten a full chance to show all that you can do. Because of crowded rosters and other factors. This may be an opportunity for you to rise.

Jamaal Magloire: Yeah, this is a chance to definitely have an opportunity to start and play. Contribute to a team that is looking to take it to the next level. And being a veteran, going into my 8th year in the NBA, this is just what I was looking for.

InsideHoops.com: Your All-Star year, does it feel like it's been a while?

Jamaal Magloire: It's been a while. And I have as good a chance as any to get back, especially with the team and the point guard they have here.

InsideHoops.com: Is there a skill or a special aspect to your game that you think people haven't seen yet, or aren't aware of? You rebound, defend, do lots of things, but is there an underrated aspect to your game?

Jamaal Magloire: I think just my ability to be able to run up and down for lengths of time, is something I haven't shown. It's more than post-up. Playing with a team like this, I have to be able to get up and down the court a lot. So that's something that I'm looking forward to showing people this year.

InsideHoops.com: What was your impression of the Nets before you got here? Last season they were banged up, but the general key players have remained the same.

Jamaal Magloire: The whole team is talented. They got to start limiting the Nets to the big three, because they have so many other young, good players. Nachbar, Boone are on the verge of becoming good, solid, consisten players in this league. And I think we all have something to prove.

InsideHoops.com: And, switching gears, do anything cool this summer?

Jamaal Magloire: No, just enjoyed my summer. There's a festival in Toronto called Caribana that I took part in. I had my own float and [band]... it's similar to the West Indian parade in Brooklyn, that happens every year, Labor Day. It's a competition, and we won.

InsideHoops.com: You won! What was your float?

Jamaal Magloire: The theme was "Viva Las Vegas" and the band name is the Toronto Revelers.
