| July 3, 2008

Mavericks sign Gerald GreenThe Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed free agent guard/forward Gerald Green. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. InsideHoops.com hears it's a pretty short-term, minor deal.

Green (6-8, 200) is a three-year veteran with career averages of 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 143 games. Originally the 18th overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Celtics, Green played his first two seasons in Boston before being traded to Minnesota on July 31, 2007. Green began the 2007-08 campaign with the Timberwolves before being traded to Houston on Feb. 21, 2008.

The Houston native was the winner of the 2007 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas. That same season, he had his best year as a pro when he averaged 10.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game for the Celtics.

Green entered the 2005 NBA Draft straight from Gulf Shores Academy in Houston where he was a 2005 McDonald's All-American and a two-time All-State selection.

"We're really excited about the addition of Gerald Green to the Mavericks family," President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson said. "He possesses youth, athleticism and is a young player we think has real upside."
