Sonics trade Flip Murray to CavsThe Seattle SuperSonics announced today they have acquired guard Mike Wilks and cash considerations from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for guard Ronald “Flip” Murray.

“In an attempt to help Flip Murray with his request to be traded, we’ve acquired Mike Wilks,” said Sonics General Manager Rick Sund. “He’s got a solid work ethic and this will give us a chance to further evaluate his skills. We’re happy that Flip will have the opportunity to continue to grow as a player in Cleveland.”

Wilks has appeared in 37 games for the Cavs this season, averaging 1.1 points and 0.5 assists in 6.6 minutes per game. The 5-10 guard is in his fourth NBA season and holds career averages of 2.0 points, 1.0 assists and 8.6 minutes in 157 games in stints with Atlanta, Minnesota, Houston, San Antonio and Cleveland.

Wilks averaged 20.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists during his senior season at Rice University. He began his professional career with the Mobile Revelers of the NBA Development League, earning the D-League’s inaugural Sportsmanship Award in 2002.

Murray is in his fourth NBA season and holds career averages of 9.6 points, 2.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 21.0 minutes in 193 games. He registered 9.9 points, 2.5 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 48 appearances this season with the Sonics. Originally selected by Milwaukee in the second round (42nd pick overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft, Murray was acquired by the Sonics along with Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie and a conditional first-round draft choice in exchange for Gary Payton and Desmond Mason.
