/ Dec. 10, 2004

Ryan Gomes considered the NBA Draft this past summer after coming off a junior season where he was named First Team All-American by the Associated Press and other major media outlets. He worked out for several NBA teams in May and June and also attended the Pre-Draft camp in Chicago. Though he turned some heads, the 6-7, 240-pound forward ultimately decided to return to Providence College for his senior season. Gomes is now looking to further his wing skills in order to raise his stock for the 2005 draft as he leads the Friars in the Big East. Gomes recently met with InsideHoops.com for a quick mini-interview.

InsideHoops.com: What did you learn at the pre-draft camp skill-wise?

Ryan Gomes: I learned some more things on how to play one-on-one ball, how to play the pick-and-roll on the offensive end and defensive end. The draft camp is something that I think prepared me well for this year and for next summer.

InsideHoops.com: Who were some of the toughest players you played against this summer?

Ryan Gomes: I played against Jermaine O’Neal and Zach Randolph at a camp in Las Vegas and Paul Pierce.

InsideHoops.com: What’s the difference between yourself and Wayne Simien and Lawrence Roberts?

Ryan Gomes: Simien, Roberts, Warrick - they’re more power guys on their teams. I think I’m able to expand my game more on the court because Coach Welsh gives me that freedom. He saw how much I worked on my shooting and everything this summer and he wouldn’t have given me that freedom if he didn’t think it would help the team or if I could do it.

InsideHoops.com: How often do you get to watch the league now?

Ryan Gomes: Every night. Whenever there’s a game on, I’m watching it.
