Shavlik Randolph surgeryPhiladelphia 76ers forward Shavlik Randolph fractured and dislocated his left ankle during practice Thursday afternoon. Randolph will undergo surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Thursday evening. Dr. Enyi Okereke will perform the surgery, with 76ers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy present during the procedure.

"It is unfortunate Shav got hurt today," said 76ers President Billy King. "He will be missed as he is an integral part of this team, but I am confident that the rest of the guys will step up in his absence."

The Philadelphia Daily News on Thursday night wrote: It is unclear at this point how long Randolph will be sidelined, but the Sixers are expected to add another big man in his absence. Randolph, who has started the last six games for an injured Chris Webber, was hurt about 90 minutes into the workout at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The injury put an end to practice.

The Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday wrote: According to Sixers forward Andre Iguodala, Randolph was playing defense in the lane as Iguodala drove to the basket. The two players collided in midair, and the 6-foot-10 Randolph lost his balance and rolled his left ankle as he landed on the floor.

The Inquirer continued: Witnesses said that as Randolph lay on the floor in pain, players turned away so as not to look at what appeared to be a gruesome injury. Randolph was attended to by Kevin Johnson, the team's head athletic trainer, before paramedics came in and took the player to Roxborough Memorial Hospital.

Update from Friday evening: Philadelphia 76ers forward Shavlik Randolph underwent successful surgery on his fractured and dislocated left ankle at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center last evening. Dr. Enyi Okereke performed the 75-minute procedure, with 76ers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy present.

Randolph was discharged from the hospital today and Dr. McPhilemy estimates he will be out for 3-4 months.
