The Milwaukee Bucks will not renew the contract of assistant coach Mike Sanders the team announced today. Sanders has been an assistant coach on the Bucks bench the last two seasons.

“I enjoyed working with Mike over the last year while I was with the team, and I know he served the Bucks well in his role as an assistant coach the last two seasons,” said Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak. “However, we’ve decided to proceed in another direction as our staff moves forward. We wish him well and thank him for his contributions to our organization.”

Sanders joined the Bucks coaching staff in 2005 after a four-year stint as Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel for the Asheville Altitude of the NBDL.

Beginning in 1982, Sanders enjoyed a successful 11-year NBA playing career with San Antonio, Phoenix, Cleveland and Indiana. He averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 648 career games.

Sanders entered the coaching ranks in 1998 as an assistant coach with the Wisconsin Blast of the International Basketball Association. He has also served as head coach with the Black Hills Gold (1999-2000) and Washington Congressionals (2000) of the IBA, as well as head coach of the Adirondack Wildcats (2002-04) of the United States Basketball League. Sanders spent the 2000-2001 season as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons.
