lakers re-sign luke waltonThe Los Angeles Lakers have resigned free agent forward Luke Walton to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Walton, 27, started all 60 games he appeared in last season, averaging 11.4 points on .474 shooting from the field with a .387 3-point field goal percentage, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.00 steals and 33.0 minutes, all career-highs. Leading the team twice in scoring, five times in rebounds and 18 times in assists, he posted five double-doubles during the 2006-07 campaign and scored 20 or more points four times including a career-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting December 8 versus Atlanta.

A four-year NBA veteran, Walton was originally selected with the 3rd pick of the second round (32nd overall) in the 2003 NBA Draft after earning All-America honors while at the University of Arizona. Along with fellow 2003 Draft alumnus Brian Cook, Walton is the second longest tenured Laker on the current roster behind Kobe Bryant.

In 73 career starts, Walton has averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Overall, the 6’8” forward is averaging 5.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 262 career games.
