Cav sign David WesleyThe Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard David Wesley to a contract, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"David adds a wealth of experience and professionalism to our team,” Ferry said. “His defense, shooting and toughness will add to areas that we want to continue to grow this year.”

Wesley, 35, played in 71 games (59 starts) for the Houston Rockets last season and averaged 9.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 33.4 minutes per game. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound guard has played in 914 career games (791 starts) with averages of 12.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. This year will mark his 14th season in the NBA. He currently ranks ninth among active players in career three-pointers made (1,114) and is one of just two undrafted players in league history to score over 11,000 career points (Moses Malone).

He has appeared in 55 games (52 starts) in eight playoff appearances in his career. He has postseason averages of 12.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

InsideHoops.com Editor Says: The Cavs can always use additional outside shooting from the backcourt, and Wesley provides that. He shot 36.5% from three-point range last season and 37.5% the season before. When Larry Hughes sits down, Wesley, an undersized shooting guard, will step in and nail shots.
