Chauncey Billups interviewThe 3rd annual Elite 24 game was Friday at Harlem’s Rucker Park, featuring the top high school basketball players in the country regardless of class. The game airs on ESPNU live at 8 p.m. EDT and re-airs on ESPN2 late night Monday, August 25 at midnight EDT. Last year’s MVPs included Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, and underclassman Lance Stephenson. Chauncey Billups is coaching this year’s game along with Kenny Anderson.

The former NBA champion and former Finals MVP took time for five quick InsideHoops.com questions:

InsideHoops.com: Who were the top guys you were going up against when you were in high school?

Chauncey Billups: In ‘95 we had everybody. That was the strongest class in a long time. Stephon, Shammgod, KG, Vince, Paul, Wayne Turner, Tractor Traylor.

InsideHoops.com: Who was the young guy coming at you when you were an upperclassman?

Billups: It was Shaheen Holloway from St. Pat’s in New Jersey that went on to play at Seton Hall.

InsideHoops.com: A good game memory from your youth?

Billups: We were in the finals of the 14-Unders, back in Phoenix at the BCI Tournament. Stephon was playing for Riverside at the time. He had 42 and I had 39 in OT. That was a battle. We were 13 years old putting up those numbers.

InsideHoops.com: If you could go back, is there anything you would have done to improve even more at the time?

Billups: Work out more, that could have sped it up for me. Just repetition, repetition is what I preach to these guys.

InsideHoops.com: Are you surprised at all with the Olympics and how the U.S. is dominating? And how Dwyane Wade has bounced back?

Billups: That’s what he does when he’s healthy. I’m not surprised at all, and I’m happy for them.
